Google updated Chrome to version 100, changing the browser logo for the first time in 8 years

The American corporation Google has released the 100th anniversary version of its popular Chrome browser. About this, the company slightly changed the design of its logo, which happened for the first time in the last 8 years, reports The Verge.

In particular, the version 100 update is released on stable channels for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS.

Anniversary Chrome features

According to the publication, the first version of the three-digit browser received more "fixes and improvements."

"The biggest change is the appearance of an updated logo. In the new design, some details of the shadow have been removed from the 2014 logo. This makes it flatter, which is more consistent with app icons for other Google services," the post says.

Other changes made to Version 100 of Chrome include the removal of" simplified mode " in the Android browser app, which was previously designed to use less mobile data and load web pages faster.

At the same time, as Chrome support manager Craig Tamblison explained in a post last month, the feature has become less necessary as the cost of mobile data has declined and Chrome has generally become more efficient.

Possible disadvantages of the new version

Meanwhile, experts have concerns that switching to version 100 may cause problems for any websites that are only designed to recognize browsers with double-digit version numbers.

However, given that Google has been warning about the transition for several months, it is likely that any serious bugs will already be noticed and fixed. If this is not the case, Google said it may freeze its browser version number to 99 until these issues are resolved.

It is known that Chrome was first introduced in 2008. For most of its history, the search giant's browser received a new version number approximately every 6 weeks. However, in 2021, Google switched to a four-week cycle to deliver new features faster.

Earlier it was reported that Google is creating a Фонд 5 million fund to support Ukrainian startups. During 2022, it will provide assistance to 50 companies that were founded in Ukraine. They will be able to get support from corporate managers, as well as loans to Google Cloud.
