Russian cyber attacks against Ukraine occur synchronously with military operations-Microsoft

Microsoft has published an analytical report on Russian cyber attacks on Ukrainian services. Even before February 24, the company began to help Ukraine defend itself from the onslaught of cyber warfare, which escalated after a full-scale invasion and continues to this day.

The report states that at least six Russian Malicious cyber groups carried out espionage activities or destructive cyber attacks when Russian troops attacked Ukraine from land, sea and air.

The day before the full-scale invasion, there was a wave of attacks by Russian groups on Ukrainian government, financial and IT services. Since then, there have been attacks on critical infrastructure facilities targeted by Russian missiles.

More than 40% of destructive attacks targeted organizations in critical infrastructure sectors. 32% concerned Ukrainian government organizations at the national, regional or local levels. Microsoft also noticed that attackers change the malware a little each time to make it harder to detect.

But so far, Microsoft has not taken it upon itself to say whether hacker groups are really carefully coordinated with the military, or whether they are simply acting within common priorities. But the company predicts that due to the escalation of hostilities, cyber attacks may increase.
