Most will donate.270 a month, a quarter — more than. 600. How much do IT specialists transfer to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Recently, the IT community closed the second fee for the PD-2 drone-this time UAH 31 million was collected in five days. In June 2022, as part of the summer salary survey, we found out from IT specialists how much they will donate to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. More than 15 thousand specialists took part in the survey. And it turned out that about 80% of respondents regularly transfer funds to the army, and the average donation is.270 per month.

We analyze financial support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and volunteering only from those IT specialists who lived in Ukraine at the time of the full-scale invasion. Although Ukrainians living abroad also help our army and country, they almost do not participate in the salary survey, so we do not add them to our analysis.

It is important to note that the calculations of donations in the study are approximate. We haven't asked IT professionals to accurately calculate the amount of aid since the war started, so these are their estimates, not actual data. These estimates may be somewhat exaggerated, because transferring money to the army is now a socially desirable behavior, so a person may be too optimistic about the amount of their own contribution. However, they give a general idea of the support of the Ukrainian IT community for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The willingness to donate depends on the level of income, confidence in work and the desire to live in Ukraine

82% of the surveyed IT specialists noted that they transfer funds to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and volunteers. Developers and testers donate at an average level: 83% and 80% of specialists regularly support the army, respectively.

Architect, Tech Lead, and CEO / CTO / Director of Engineering are the most active donors: more than 90% of these specialists regularly make contributions. Junas and interns are the least likely to transfer funds: 72% and 48%, respectively.

The willingness to help financially is closely related to the level of income and well — being of specialists: the median salary of those who donate is 2 2,850 against.1,300 for those who do not donate. 85% of those who earn more than they spend support the army with funds, compared to 78% of those who spend everything, and 59% of those who spend more than they earn.

Confidence in the future is also important. Specialists whose work situation has not changed since the start of a full-scale war or the amount of work or projects has increased are more likely to donate (more than 80% of them) than those who have reduced the amount of work (77% of specialists donate), or those who have lost their jobs (60%).

Specialists who connect their future with Ukraine transfer funds more often. The most active donors are people who stayed in Ukraine and definitely do not plan to go abroad after the war (87%), those who returned to Ukraine after the experience of relocating (86%), as well as those who plan to return to Ukraine after the end of the war or when it becomes safe in a certain region (84%). Specialists who plan to leave Ukraine after the opening of borders make contributions much less often (75%), as well as those who do not plan to return from abroad (69%).

The average monthly donation among respondents is 10% of the salary, or $270 in almost all groups — by specialization, city of residence / stay, gender, age, and other characteristics.

Architect and Tech Lead Level specialists help a little more financially — they give 15% of their monthly salary, or 1 1,010 and 7 700, respectively. A similar amount is spent monthly by specialists at the CEO / CTO / Director of Engineering level (7 750).

The amount of donations varies greatly and ranges from 1% to 100% of the monthly salary. 30% of respondents donate up to 5% (inclusive) of their monthly salary, 29% — 20% or more. 50% of salaries and more are transferred by about 5% of respondents. 73 specialists in our sample will donate more than 90% of their salary.

Stable work and sufficient income, as a rule, have a positive impact on the amount of contributions. The median donation among those who did not feel changes in their work due to the outbreak of war is 3 300, and among those who have increased the number of work or projects — $280. at the same time, those who lost their jobs or felt a decrease in the workload, help financially less often and in smaller amounts — 1 170-175 per month. Similarly, those who earn more than they spend transfer larger amounts (the median donation is 3 300) than those who spend everything they earn (1 174).

Median donations based on the financial situation / changes in work due to the war

The average amount of donations from IT specialists who went abroad after February 24 and those who stayed in Ukraine practically does not differ (2 282 and.270). At the same time, those who left but plan to return, on average, transfer more than those who have not yet decided or do not plan to return to Ukraine (3 300 and 2 260-270, respectively).
