The president signed the "law on cloud services for government agencies"

The president today signed the law on cloud services, which was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada a month ago. It will allow us to regulate how public authorities apply cloud technologies, in particular, to transfer the main processes directly to the cloud and use the state budget more efficiently.

"Cloud technologies will reduce the burden on government and local governments responsible for the operation of State Information Systems. After all, to process information yourself, you need to periodically increase the number of computing and human resources.

According to The Economist magazine, the volume of digital information increases tenfold every five years. Therefore, we propose to introduce the cloud first principle: to transfer the main state IT services to the clouds, "Mikhail Fedorov, head of the Ministry of Digital Development, commented on this law.

The text of Law No. 2655 defines the terminology and list of cloud services, the legal basis and terms of the contract for their provision. For example, the list of cloud services includes:

infrastructure as a service (IaaS);platform as a service (PaaS);software as a service (SaaS);security as a service (SECaaS).

The text also contains requirements for cloud service providers and describes the system of state regulation of this industry. The Ministry of Digital Development notes that the adoption of this law may encourage services like Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud to build data centers in Ukraine.
