Intel abandons Pentium and Celeron processors in new laptop product line
Intel is ditching Pentium and Celeron processors in its 2023 laptop product line. In an announcement on the official website dated September 16, Intel introduced Intel Processor, a new brand of processors.
"For both work and entertainment, the importance of the PC is becoming increasingly apparent as the rapid pace of technological development continues to shape the world. Intel is committed to innovating for the benefit of users, and our entry-level processor families have played a crucial role in raising PC standards across all price groups. The new Intel Processor brand will simplify our offerings so that users can focus on choosing the right processor for their needs," said Josh Newman, Intel vice president and interim general manager of mobile client platforms.
The Intel Processor line will be positioned as a more affordable solution compared to Intel Core, Intel Evo and Intel vPro. Budget processors will be easier to distinguish by name and distinguish from representatives of the desktop line.
The Pentium trademark appeared in the 1990s and was used to refer to a line of top-end processors for desktop PCs. Budget chips are called Celeron. Subsequently, both brands began to be used on laptops as well.
