Starlink internet will be available on Ukrzaliznytsia trains by the end of the year

According to the head of the State Service for Special Communications Yuriy Shchigol, satellite internet from Starlink will appear on Ukrzaliznytsia trains by the end of 2022. He stated this in an interview with Liga.Tech June 29.

The main thing is that the pilot project to install Starlink on Ukrzaliznytsia trains has already been tested and it works better than expected.

"When we contacted Starlink technicians after testing and showed them how it works, even they were surprised that we were able to use Starlink in this way. According to its technical characteristics, it should not operate at such speeds. But it works and provides services," said the head of the State Special communications service.

The head of the State Service for Special Communications assures that the supply of Starlink will continue, and Ukraine will be able to restore communication in the liberated territories. In particular, Starlink will provide a backup channel for conducting online testing of graduates.

Now all Starlink equipment provided by Elon Musk and organizations such as USAID works in Ukraine for free, says Yuriy Shchigol. The issue of payment will be considered after the war. But the price will not be American or European. According to him, there are already preliminary agreements with Elon Musk on preferential tariffs for the period until Ukraine restores its economy.
