Briefly about Polish IT: companies, clusters, salaries, job boards and in-demand specialists
We continue to talk about the Polish IT market, where a large number of Ukrainian specialists moved after the war. This time we tried to collect information about how many IT specialists, companies and clusters there are in Poland, what are the average salaries and where IT specialists are looking for work.
For this article, we did not conduct our own analytics, but collected information from open sources and talked to the polish it Association SoDA.
Let's start with the general information.
According to Eurostat data for 2020, there are about 550,000 IT specialists in Poland.
The IT industry accounts for approximately 8% of Poland's GDP.
CitiesThe following regions of Poland have the largest number of IT specialists::
Warsaw (24%);Krakow (14%);Wroclaw (12%);Silesian agglomeration (8.7%);Trimisto (Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot) (8.2%);Poznan (7.5%);Lodz (6.7%). CompaniesThe majority of IT companies in Poland are software developers (45%). The second place is occupied by companies specializing in finance, banking and insurance. In third place — provider companies, in fourth-telecommunications.
The following are most common: consulting; retail / wholesale; media / entertainment; automotive/aviation industry; transport/logistics/warehousing; government; hardware; healthcare; industrial equipment; medicine; education.
In the first quarter of 2022, there were 138.5 thousand IT companies in Poland. Next — about the biggest and most famous.
CD Projekt REDThe Polish private video game development company is a subsidiary of the Polish holding company CD Projekt.
It was founded in 2002. It has about 1,100 employees.
Asseco PolandPolish international group of IT companies headquartered in Rzeszow. The largest Polish IT company whose shares are traded on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
It was founded in 1991. It has about 22,000 employees.
ComarchPolish software developer and system integrator based in Krakow. Comarch provides services in areas such as telecommunications, finance and banking, the service sector, and public administration.
It was founded in 1993. It has about 7,000 employees.
NTT SYSTEMPolish manufacturer of personal computers, laptops, servers, computer accessories and smart home systems. The company is one of the leading distributors of accessories, components and peripherals in Poland.
Founded in the mid-1980s, it has about 140 employees.
Integrated SolutionsThe company offers innovative solutions in the following areas: automation/AI, cloud services, data analytics, software development, network and communications, IT infrastructure, cybersecurity and professional services.
It was founded in 2011. It has about 220 employees.
Ten Square GamesPolish mobile game developer with headquarters in Wroclaw and additional studios in Warsaw, Berlin, Bucharest and Verona. The company focuses on producing hobby games in a free distribution model.
It was founded in 2011. It has about 320 employees.
ExatelPolish telecommunications operator and cybersecurity service provider. It manages a fiber - optic data transmission network with a length of about 20 thousand kilometers. The company deals with data transmission, voice and internet services, and hosting.
It was founded in 1993. It has about 410 employees.
Transition TechnologiesA high-tech engineering company that specializes in developing its own IT solutions, as well as implementing innovative technologies from well-known world leaders and providing a full range of IT services, including product support and maintenance. The company's employees work daily to create solutions in the fields of Data Science, the Internet of Things (IoT), virtual (VR) and augmented (XR) realities, providing most services based on the cloud computing model.
It was founded in 1991. It has more than 1,500 employees.
WaskoOne of the largest Polish companies in the field of modern information technologies. Individual groups of the company participate in the computerization of key sectors of the economy, as well as the state and local government sectors. Headquartered in Gliwice, the company also has branches in major cities across the country.

In Poland, an important place is occupied by foreign companies operating in the country's market. The most famous of them:

The most popular programming languages are Java, JavaScript, Python, C#, PHP, C, and C++.
The least popular ones are Bash/Shell/PowerShell, Kotlin, and TypeScript.
Developers are the largest group among IT specialists (most of all-Back — end Developers). Data processing/ML/AI specialists and IT architects are the least represented on the market.
